Energy Planning Strategist Expands Firm’s Capabilities Beyond Traditional Architecture

DIGroupArchitecture has announced the promotion of Project Executive and Architect Elizabeth “Betsy” Ackerman to Principal. She brings a new service capability in Energy Planning and Design to the firm, and her appointment also marks a major milestone as the firm’s first female Principal since its founding in 2006.

Betsy advises clients in energy management and building optimization, energy resilience and security, renewable energy technologies, and federal, state and utility incentives that are available to significantly reduce the cost of infrastructure upgrades. She identifies opportunities to reduce energy consumption and costs by determining the mix of energy strategies and revenue generating programs that best serve DIG’s clients.

“Moving into a principal role affords me the opportunity to work directly with clients to integrate energy strategies and financing opportunities into their projects. In reviewing our clients’ capital renewal programs, we identify those projects that can be paid for with energy savings. This extends our clients’ capital dollars and allows them to spend those dollars building for the future. My goal is to expand the firm’s expertise and capabilities, as well as its geographic reach into the greater Philadelphia area”

As the former Director of Economic Development and Energy Policy at the NJ Board of Public Utilities, she oversaw New Jersey’s Clean Energy Program and NJ’s Energy Savings Improvement Program (ESIP), as well as other state and federal grants that support the development of energy efficiency and distributed generation.

“From day one, Betsy has been impactful in the work she does with our clients, as well as with her colleagues here at DIG. Every day, by example, she tasks us to become better at who we are and what we do. We are fortunate to have her passion for architecture, her creative thinking and her joyful spirit as part of the DIG team,” said President Jeff Venezia.
